Germán was born in San Juan La Laguna in 1991 and is Tz’utujil Maya. His family has been involved for many years in the cultivation of coffee.

In 2011, he completed his studies in nursing and began his career in medicine in the city of Quetzaltenango. However, his interests were in nature and decided to change his career track.

In 2015 he began pursuing his interest in birdwatching and at the same time began study for his general tourism guide license. He is currently studying environmental engineering.

Germán has participated in numerous activities related to birdwatching like Christmas Counts, conferences, and he very much enjoys sharing his knowledge with others.

His most visited site for birdwatching is the Maya Face Trail in San Juan La Laguna where you can see the Belted Flycatcher (regional endemic), very rare with a very restricted range.
